DOG HEALTH, Feeding
If you expect your dog to perform as an athlete, he needs to be fed like one! You cannot, as a hunter, expect your dog to last in the woods all day on poor quality food. It would be the same as the athlete running a 25 miles run, on bread alone. Just wouldn’t work.
On the other hand, if your dog is not an athlete, rather a “week-end jogger”, he doesn’t need high powered food either, he’ll just get fat!
We use a chicken based food. Chicken is the #1 ingredient on the ingredient list on the bag. Always check the ingredients and the analysis of the food you buy. If you change from one food to another, try to ease the dog into it gradually over the course of a week or so. That way you won’t have stomach upsets.
Analysis
- For Active Dogs: 28% protein, 20–30% fat (depending on their level of activity).
- For Pups: 28% protein, 18-20% fat. We feed our pups, puppy food till they are two years old and fully grown.
NEVER give your dog “people” food. It isn’t good for them. Dogs are carnivores, not vegetarians, so normally speaking your dog needs meat in his diet. Unfortunately there isn’t any more dogfood with beef (due to the perceived BSE threat), so chicken is the next best thing. Pork isn’t good for dogs.
