Tony and Shawn (Puppies)
July 2009
New Hampshire
These 2 fellows are in New Hampshire. The message speaks for itself!
"Frieda and Branko, Just wanted to drop you a note and say hello and Thanks again for our pups. As of today all of our pups have started running. We are very excited and could not be happier. The Tuffy x Maya pup started at two days prior to 16 week old, Spot x Trixie 15 weeks and the two Spot x Diagonal pups started today at just over 14 weeks. The Maya pup of Shawn's is very impressive. Shawn and I are both very interested in two pups from Tuffy and Maya if you make that cross again. I would like a female and Shawn would like a male. Please put us on a list and if you need deposits let us know. We have some friends that field trial and they are really excited also. You folks have definitely done your home work. Thank you, Tony."

These folks purchased Branko's Spring Warbler a couple of years ago, as a running, 13 inch female. They followed advise as to who to breed her to. The result speaks for themselves, and good for them.
"Hello Frieda,
The puppies from Dudley do right/Spring Warbler started tracking yesterday @ 10 weeks old. I took all 6 out this evening and walked along the edge of a field until I saw a rabbit. We walked up to where the rabbit had been and I just stood around. In no time at all the little girl yipped and immediately two of her brothers ran to her. Noses to the ground, they went to work. It was all smell and no sight race. This is the earliest I have ever seen puppies go to work. I suppose this is a common occurrence around your house but this was a red letter day at ours! I will keep you posted on how the pups are progressing so you can monitor how well Dudley's traits are passed on."

California
This beagle is in California, and will be trained for search and rescue.
"Bender is such a bright puppy, he already knows sit, (lay) down, roll over, and go through. He goes through the colorful tunnel in these pics. I took him to see his first helicopter take off three days ago and he just sat there ~ 50 meters away from the chopper throughout the takeoff, it was wonderful. He is doing so well I can’t get over how fast he is learning. Did y’all teach him some of these commands when he was with you? We are working on house training him... this is going really well so long as my son can remember to take him outside every 30 minutes when I am not there, so he has a chance to go. He is learning what the word potty and poo poo mean also. If I take him outside and say potty he starts looking for a place to do his business. All in all he is a perfect fit for our family and Pickles is having fun with his new playmate."

"Hi Frieda, I had spoken with you this time last year in regards to our beagle “Branko’s Traveling Fellow” AKA Royce. We had gotten him from the local SPCA three years ago and were finally able to track you down through his tattoo. I have to admit I did NOT know what I was getting myself into when I got a beagle but when I walked into the shelter and he was sitting there with those big floppy ears and sad eyes, I knew he had to come home with me. Lets just say he had a few manners to learn, and is still working on them, but he brings more spirit into our home than I could ever imagine. I started skijoring with Royce and his best friend Gracie (My lab X) and he is quite a hit at the local races. I love the reaction on people’s faces as they are lined up with their numerous “sled” dogs and I roll out of the truck with my beagle expecting him to pull me on skis! We came in 5th Place in our first race, (OK so there were only 5 participants, but not everyone needs to know that)! He pulls great, especially when a rabbit crosses the trail, the speed picks up immensely. It is quite amazing to me that I have never trained him on rabbits yet he knows exactly what to do. If I could rig up a belt that holds a rabbit about 3 feet in front of him at all times, I might start winning a few more races. I had promised you a picture, so here it is."

"Frieda - An update on Sadie. I was retired when I purchased her, but I went back to work and did not start or run her until she was 17-18 months old. A local trainer was reluctant to put her into his starting pen because of her age, and he said that very few dogs that old would start. I told him she was well bred and left her there for a week. I knew she would be homesick, so I called after three days - the trainer said Sadie didn't need to be in the starting pen, but rather should be in the woods running rabbits. Long story short - that was about five months ago - last Sunday (1/11/09) I soloed her for the first time - two hours - she jumped a rabbit - ran it about 18 minutes before the first check - five checks total with one that exceeded 15 minutes. Given her limited running time in the field, I think she is progressing exceptionally well and will mature into a super nice gun dog. Sadie is out of Kasey X Miss Bo Beep and possesses quickness, speed, and she is "smart as a whip". As for her voice, first starts as a "squealer" but it seems that it turns into a deeper "yodel" at times. Oh, I almost forgot, but I did attach a picture. My hunting buddy says Sadie is built right - legs, chest, head (raves about her head) and the muscle definition in her rear legs (must be a leg man). Don't be surprised if I show up next Fall looking for dogs - and I'll tell you this - I won't settle for one again. Enjoying Sadie in Alabama."

"Frieda, I just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with the pup we got from you back in July. Niki is now just seven months old and we are already starting to hunt with her. She actually opened up for the first time at 4 months of age and has been progressing nicely since. I must admit that originally I was a little concerned about her "hare breeding" and thought she might be too loose for our local cottontails, but she has proven that with the right breeding, the breed is capable of learning any type of rabbit hunting, and she actually bares down and works checks a lot like the local breeds do. She has provided countless hours of amusement for our kids with her crazy antics and outgoing dogonality (doggie personality). I have enclosed pics of the first rabbits we took over her yesterday 12/26/08. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!"

"Hello Branko and Frieda. You probably don’t remember me but I purchase a dog from you in 1999. I named her Branko’s Hilltop Kiss Me Kate. She’ll be 10 years old soon and still runs with the youngsters. Just got back from Snowshoe hare hunting in Maine and she was the first dog to jump and start a hare. The guys I went with call her ” Katie The Wonder Dog”. She is a real joy run and gun over. I trilled her for a few years and she championed at about 3 or 4 years old, had lots of fun. The reason I am writing now is I will be looking to get a another female soon, I was interested in what your current price would be for a female pup out of One tuff Ombre. I was also interested in what the current shipping charges would be (approximately). I look forward to hearing from you soon."

"Elmo died suddenly today at the age 14, his mother was Sassy Sally and his father Charlie the Bush Beagle. This little dog even last night played ,chased me and barked at me when cutting the lawn. His death was a complete shock, and he will missed. Just thought I'd let you know that one of your dogs played such a big part in our lives. He truly was a great dog."

"Just wanted to send you a picture of Taylor and her new best bud:) and a testimonial. Fisher is the most wonderful little guy ever,he is so smart! He can sit, lie down, rollover, shake a paw and now I am working on "stay" with him which he is grasping quickly as well. I take him everywhere with us and he is so well behaved and cute everyone stops me on the street to ask us where we got him,and we are always happy to tell them "Branko's Beagles". He is the best money we ever spent and brings so much joy to our lives. I would recommend a Branko's pup to anyone considering getting a beagle, they are brilliant highly trainable puppies with excellent temperaments. You will not be disappointed!"
Dave (Champ)
June 2008
Alberta
"I received Champ at around 8 weeks of age. I started taking him for walks in the woods two days after we got him. I would go through the woods yelling “get em out” “get the bunnies” as I did when I hunted with adult beagles. I continued this every chance I got and the pup followed along happily. As Champ started to move away from me a little farther, I would shoot off one round of .22. (I have since shoot 12 gage over him without issue). I have driven down dirt roads, early in the morning and when I would see a rabbit cross the road I would let the pup out and go hunting. This went on several times and then one day (two days before he turned 4 months old) be started on the rabbit! I couldn’t believe it! He would track and bark on the rabbit for an average time of about 25 min. He has been running rabbits ever since! Getting better and better every time! I have had working beagles for many years, and some very fine dogs, but I have never seen one break this early! When he gets the scent of a rabbit, his tail becomes a blur and he hunts with passion, lots of energy! I can’t wait to see what’s next. Great job on the breeding and I will be looking for another in the future!"

"Hello. We just wanted to update you on Indi's progress over the past 7 months or so and have enclosed the most recent photo we have of her. She's happy and healthy and well adjusted.
She definitely has brought her fair share of hurdles. She so inquisitive and curious and is always getting into everything plus she's stubborn but we love her anyway's. She loves attention but is able to settle down and cuddle with you when she's completely worn out. Everyone she meets (people and dogs) just love her to pieces because of her good nature. She gets along with pretty much everyone and adores playing with other dogs we meet along our daily walks to Lower Fort Garry. Nose always to the ground, she adores every moment.
We plan on taking her to obedience classes in the near future to work on the basics. She does come to her name and sits and stays quite well on her own now.
We absolutely love having her in our life as she brings so much joy and happiness to everyone around her. We're so thankful that she's ours as she brightens even the darkest of days. We know we made the right choice and she's a wonderful addition to our family."

"I’m not sure if you remember us, but we are the family that came to visit almost 5 years ago, looking for a family pet. We had two boys at that time that were 12 and 9 – now 17 and 14. You had picked out a few pups for us and we came home with “BJ”. I just want to let you know that we have thoroughly enjoyed BJ – he is a great dog and we love him dearly. I’m afraid he is not living his true destiny as a hunting dog, but I think we have given him a good life. The closest he comes to hunting is his weekly fishing trips – by boat in summer on local lakes and on frozen lakes ice fishing in the winter. He lives for those days and loves to howl as my husband is reeling in a fish. He stands on the front of the boat, with ears flapping in the wind. He has lots of energy when he’s out, but he is quite calm by nature when around the house. He puts up with lots of handling and petting, but he is rather coy – in a very cute sort of way. I have attached some pictures of him, so you can see how he looks. He has been very healthy and has managed to stay quite trim, despite his rather sedentary lifestyle. He does get out for frequent walks, but I know he could run for hours if he was in shape and had the opportunity– he certainly has the genetics for it! I would love to get your feedback if you have time to drop us a quick email. You have made this family very happy and we often say that that was the best money we ever spent! We have received a return countless times over and our family memories will be filled with lots of good times because of BJ."

"Good Morning Frieda! I thought today would be very appropriate to send a testimonial your way! Sire: 2 x AKC National FC Branko's One Tuff Ombre | Dam: Branko's Ella Ella. It has been some time since I have written our last testimonial and let me begin by saying that is not because our pup has not been working hard - she has been working EXTREMELY hard and continues to show us her great qualities. Our female will be 2 in March and we have trialed her 3 times - I guess the 3rd time must be a charm! I am happy to report that yesterday, she took a second at the Bay de Noc AKC Field Trail in Hyde, MI. It snowed heavy all day, but Charlie was still able to run the front! We get numerous compliments on her build and as I look at other hounds, I can truly appreciate her breeding! Her chest is nice and deep and talk about foot, this dog truly has foot! I was proud of her yesterday competing against the experienced, more mature dogs and came out in 2nd place! She was only 9 points behind the 1st place dog. We couldn't be happier with her and are looking forward to more trials. It is an honour to tell others about her breeding when they ask "Who's she out of?". I have enclosed a picture from the trial. Thanks again - we think she's the best!"

"We purchased a pup from you in 2002. Lady is out of Lumberjack and Lady Macbeth. She is out of the litter born 9/24/02. Lady has made grand champion in UKC. She ran in 8 hunts as champion and won 5. Finished 2nd in the other three. Thank you for such a great dog. Am interested in purchasing another pup from you in the Spring."
Elly (Joey and Lilly)
December 2007
"Just wanted to send a new photo of Joey and Lilly. They are both doing very well. Their day is spent resting and wrestling. We forgot how much energy a beagle pup has. I received Lilly's papers...thank you. We did have Lilly spayed at the end of November and the surgery went very well."

"I’m not sure if you remember me, but I bought a beagle puppy from you in 2001. Her name is Abby and she is doing great! We love her to pieces and she has a cat “brother” and a cat “sister” who she loves to play with. I wanted to send you an updated picture to let you know that she is doing well and is well taken care of. Thank you again. And please know that if we are ever in need of another beagle (because that is the only kind of dog I would ever own), we will definitely contact you again!"

"It has been almost a year that I've had Lilly, and she is quite the character. Everyone in my family loves her. My older sister and her husband take her for sleep overs on the weekends. They recently lost their dog that they had for 13 years to cancer so having Lilly around makes it easier."

"Thought I would give you an update on Eddie, he is doing very well. He
loves the kids, in fact I have a feeling he believes that he is one of them! He loves to go for walks and to the park, and run around with the kids in
the back yard. The vet is always very impressed with him, and so are people
that we meet when we are on our walks. He is a very good and friendly boy
no problems with him except for some chewing, but I keep telling the kids,
if you leave it on the ground it is fair game.
I have attached a picture of him having a snooze with our youngest after a "hard" afternoon in the park! Hope all is well with you!"

"Just wanted to thank you once more for the pups, Savage and Rowdy. These dogs seem to never stop impressing me.The weather has been crazy here this winter, 45 and rain one day 20 and snow the next and the wind seems to never stop. The pups adjust to all conditions and more times than not, they get the job done. They are both very intelligent and never seem to get tired. I ran them with other dogs for the first time today, just running no guns. The pups made me very proud. His female struck the first track, the pups joined in and took the lead. The race only went about 300yds and came to an abrupt stop. The pups came in to me, C. hinted that the pups were moving too fast and had over run the track so far that they could not pick it back up. I told him that the rabbit had gone into a hole because that is the only time the pups come in off of a track. The pups then moved into some cover and jumped another bunny, his female joined the race. We had to go to the hole d stop his male from digging. It was now obvious why the pups came in, 1" of fresh snow and no bunny track leaving the area. We got his male into the race, it ended at another hole. This time when the boys came to check in Coleman asked if I would leash them until he caught his male. We turned loose again, the dogs were working hard around a large log pile that was over grown with briars. Savage and Rowdy both found a way under the pile. Coleman said that the pile was too big and thick and that it would take an act of God to get a bunny out from under it in this weather. He was wrong it just took an act of 2 very exceptionally bred dogs !! The dogs did circle this bunny 3 times before it holed up. This is not to say that these are "super dogs", they do loose tracks and at times do silly puppy stuff, but so far they are far exceeding my expectations. The list of things that they do, know, or sense, and that I can only attribute to their superior breeding is longer than I care t ype, and it would be pointless since they were bred by you. Again Thank You for all of the joy that you have brought to my family and myself with these dogs."

"Snoopy is now fully grown.
He loves to play fetch, hide and seek , and go for walks.
He is learning how to understand Polish.
He knows words in Polish like walk, come, and kiss.
He is also learning how to shake both paws."

"Thought you might like to see Tracker in the attached photo, this was his first major hunting success with 8 rabbits, he was pretty proud of himself that day, it is a large photo I'm afraid, so it may take a moment to download. Tracker was from Kasey and Black Magic Woman's litter last februrary and he has turned into quite the character, he's a great pet and becoming a sound hunter."
CL (Victor)
December 2005
"Frieda, thought I would tell you how Victor is doing. Hes been running rabbits for me for about a month. Every time out he gets better. Yesterday he circled two for the first time. At 5.5 months old this is way more than I expected. Weve got about 8 or 9 inches of snow on the ground and that hasn't fazed him one bit. We ran all day in it. He has no quit in him. As far as "brains" go, he has to the smartest beagle I've ever had. Quick to learn anything. The way he's turned out, and if my wife will let me, Ill be sending out another deposit for a pup next spring. Thanks again for the great dog."
DM (Leader of the Pack)
December 2005
Homer, Michigan
"I’d like to introduce myself – I am D.M. of Homer Michigan. I have owned beagles off and on for most of my life. I’ve always considered myself very lucky as almost all of my beagles in the past have been a lot better than average rabbit dogs. Last year I bought a female pup for my son from R.S. that was out of Ombre and his Sue female. When she was 3-12/ months old, we took her out for the 1st time by herself and she ran 3 rabbits that day – it was kinda hit and miss running but for her 1st time out and her being only 3-1/2 months old…. I have to say that was I was really impressed. When that litter was about 6 months old I started 2 or the male pups for R. and both of those pups really amazed me. About a month later I bought one of those males and I call him “ M. Leader of the Pack”. I am telling you right now that I have never been this satisfied as I am with this male. The main reason I like him so much is that he has NEVER made me mad at him. “Lead” is the most trainable young dog I’ve ever owned. He is definitely the smartest and most level-headed pup I’ve ever had the pleasure to own. He just seems to know what I want out of him. At 15 month old he has very good speed, equally great line control, he handles good and has a lot of hunt in him and has never ran trash., even though he has never had ashock collar on him and I run him 5 times a week. Last week I ran him with my Grand Hunting Beagle Champion and they ran 1 rabbit for just of one hour and would have scored 4 lines. “Lead” had three of them and he did it in style. Two days later I ran him with a couple of friends , which had a champion male and 2 very good females. 10 lines were made in5 hours and “Lead” had 8 of them and again, he did it in style. Man, I’ve never been more proud! I had him in 3 hunts and he placed 4th out of 40 dogs when he was 12 months old and looked good in the those 2 hunts. I also entered him in hone show and he won best male of show – so he also has looks to boot. I just wanted to thank the both of you for producing such a fine line of rabbit dogs, which in turn has allowed me to own what I feel is a “hound of a lifetime”. Thanks again and good hunting."
C and C (Toby)
December 2005
Winnipeg, Manitoba
"I don’t know if you remember us, but we bought a puppy from you back in June. We named him Toby. I just wanted to let you know how he is doing and how much joy he’s brought us! You were right, when you said that everyone would have something to say about beagles… boy did they ever! You’d think that good manners and tact never existed the way the stories flew, I mean people would just come right up to us… people we’ve never met… and say something not very flattering at all about beagles.
For us however I have no horror stories. Toby has been the bet behaved dog either of us have ever owned.. with the exception of the occasional “puppy moment” ( but then I think that every dog owner has a few of those). He’s adjusted to the cats and they’ve adjusted to him, one of them even tries to play with Toby! Toby always wins of course.. he just kind of sits on him and that’s that!
Toby is very happy and has many friends on our street. He plays very well with other dogs and loves every person he comes across.. of course if they don’t notice him he’s crushed! The joy that he has brought us went beyond anything that either of us could have anticipated. He has mastered the basic obedience commands and has even learned a few tricks! He is very well behaved, on of the best behaved dogs that either of us have ever owned ( between the two of us we’ve owned few!) I know that I keep repeating that, but I just want you to know how happy we are that you allowed us to adopt one of your puppies.
Thank you again for Toby and all the joy he’s brought us. We’re doing our best to keep him busy and active, he gets together with his friends and plays like a crazy boy as often as he can. The snow has also brought him great joy and me as well. There’s something fun and refreshing about watching him attack each new snowdrift with such enthusiasm. He dives into them like a dolphin and comes out simply covered with snow, repeating it over and over again until he finally collapses and asks to go back inside.
Toby has found a very loving home and I’m enclosing a few pictures so you can see his progression. I will warn you... I am one of those people who feel that he’s family and so he’s gotten dressed up . . . I know, I know, it’s silly, but he really seems to not mind… he really didn’t mind when people stopped to “ooo” and “ahh” over his cute costume! Thank you again."

"I sent out the deposit for another pup. I would like to get a female. Please contact me via email and advise when I could call you to go over the various litters. As you and I spoke on the phone a couple of weeks ago, I was thinking of shipping my bitch up to you to be bred. I am a little nervous about shipping her. So, I hope I can get on of your pups. As I mentioned on the phone, the pup you sent me last year is now 10 months old. He is a great dog and just keeps getting better. By the second half of the past hunting season he was running all out. And the last few weeks of the season he actually was retrieving every rabbit we shot! He is a very hard hunter and seems to never get tired. He is very muscular and can run all day. We are very happy and thank you for breeding such a great dog. Was wondering, are any others from the Pittsburgh area getting any pups? If so, maybe we cans ship together as R. and I did last year. Will wait to hear from you."

"I am sure my brother may have written you by now, but just in case, I figured I would drop you a line. Well, our Annie seems to be better with her packing. She will be 3 years old August 26, 2005. Well, yesterday at a licensed SPO-R she showed what she was made off under tough conditions, she took 1st in the 15 inch bitch class, over 32 other hounds, in Glendale, N.Y. She was hands down high hound of her pack and the entire 1st series. The marshals even shook J.’s hand at the end of the first series. After such a rough start to the trial, she made it look easy and the only check in a 25 minute run Annie solved while all the other hounds gave up and wandered off. The second series was “so so” as getting a rabbit to not go immediately into a hole was tough. Then, when the winners pack started she was queen of the checks. Not always running the front, and cleaning up the messes. I think that front running has gotten her in trouble on a bad scent day. Well, anyways I am very proud of her and I think even my brother, who by the way wanted me to leave her home that day, cannot deny what a fine job she did. Will she ever do it again???? Time and patience will tell and the love and hard work may be all she and I need, and if not, the love will never be lost. I see her ability when it’s just her and I in the field time, time and time again, and I just wanted everyone else to know that there is a super little hound under all those muscles and beauty. Well, enough bragging on Annie and Happy Spring!"

March 2005

"I just wanted to drop you a line about how the Ombre pups are doing. I did a cross with Ombre and Smokes Creek Shady Lady. The pups are now 8.5 months old and all 9 are started and running. I had one of the males I kept, what I’d call “lightly” started, and I had a buddy that was going to take a pup he had out of different bloodlines to a starting and conditioning pen we have used in the past down in KY. The other male I kept was well started and running in the wild, and I had started him by running him with an older, slower bluetick male I have here, and he needed no help at all, being able to circle a rabbit solo with no problems at all! The pup I took to the pen was just a tad slower to develop and with trialling and having limited time, I decided that the pen might be best for him. I had called the guy a week after he was there and asked how he was doing. He told me that the first day in the starting pen, he had ran down and killed one of his cottontails, so he had put him into the 30 acre conditioning pen, and after one more week he called told me to come and see if I thought he was ready to come home. I went down this morning and the pup was just hammering! He literally destroyed my buddy’s dog that was 2 months older, taking the line and running it with precision! I got back home, and took him out in the woods, thinking that he may be just pen wise, and that it had to be too good to be true. The pup jumped a rabbit and ran him solo for almost an hour before it started to pour rain and I caught him and came back in. I talked to every single person I have sold pups to and they just cannot seem to say enough about them, and I am just thrilled with mine, as you can tell. I am not new to this game by any means, and think I know a good dog when I see one. I just want to thank you again for breeding a fine stud dog and giving me the chance to breed to him. I have registered this litter for the futurity in 2006 and I know of at least 5 of these pups that will be there. I may run a few derbies with them when they are old enough but I won’t push them into trials too early. Good dogs are too hard to come by, to risk blowing them up! Take care and you will be seeing these pups in the future and as I told you before, I’ll keep you posted to let you know how they are doing. Yours in sport."
Bob (Cooper)
February 2005
"I just thought I would send a note to tell you about Cooper. He will be 3 years old on March 25th, 2005 and I could not be more pleased with his progress. Season ends the end of this month and there have been over 175 rabbits shot over him in 3 seasons. That may not sound like a lot, but I do not have a lot of time to hunt, except for on weekends. Everything you have told me about him, has pretty much been right on. He has NEVER run a deer yet, and I am looking forward to this year to see how much better he becomes after he turns 3 years old. He trails fairly fast, depending on conditions. He has a very hard time in deep fluffy snow, frosty mornings but those are difficult conditions for any dogs. I want to see as he gets older how much he will tighten up on the line Right now he will still over run the track a good bit. I have not seen him give up when looses the track and most of the time he picks up the track in short order. He will retrieve a rabbit that was not hit very well and runs a ways before dying. Funny thing is when he sees you see him, he will drop the rabbit and wait on you. I guess I’m not that good of a trainer. He is not hard mouthed at all and most of the time will just give the dead rabbit a couple of licks and then go look for the next one. I have seen a big improvement in how he work the brush. He will go to brush and most of the time I don’t have to. He seems to have somewhat of a cold nose, not sure how cold. I have not had t stand around and wait on him while he works in one spot for a long time. Yet it seems a lot of the rabbits we have killed this year are ones were he will just take off and warm the track up, not having jump the rabbit out of the brush. I could not be more pleased with this dog! I have recommended you to everyone. What you have told me to expect, and so far you have been right on.
