I received Champ at around 8 weeks of age. I started taking him for walks in the woods two days after we got him. I would go through the woods yelling “get em out” “get the bunnies” as I did when I hunted with adult beagles. I continued this every chance I got and the pup followed along happily.  As Champ started to move away from me a little farther, I would shoot off one round of .22. (I have since shoot 12 gage over him without issue). I have driven down dirt roads, early in the morning and when I would see a rabbit cross the road I would let the pup out and go hunting. This went on several times and then one day (two days before he turned 4 months old) be started on the rabbit!  I couldn’t believe it! He would track and bark on the rabbit for an average time of about 25 min. He has been running rabbits ever since! Getting better and better every time! I have had working beagles for many years, and some very fine dogs, but I have never seen one break this early! When he gets the scent of a rabbit, his tail becomes a blur and he hunts with passion, lots of energy!  I can’t wait to see what’s next. Great job on the breeding and I will be looking for another in the future!

Dear Branko's Beagles,

Hello. We just wanted to update you on Indi's progress over the past 7 months or so and have enclosed the most recent photo we have of her. She's happy and healthy and well adjusted.

She definitely has brought her fair share of hurdles. She so inquisitive and curious and is always getting into everything plus she's stubborn but we love her anyway's. She loves attention but is able to settle down and cuddle with you when she's completely worn out. Everyone she meets (people and dogs) just love her to pieces because of her good nature. She gets along with pretty much everyone and adores playing with other dogs we meet along our daily walks to Lower Fort Garry. Nose always to the ground, she adores every moment.

We plan on taking her to obedience classes in the near future to work on the basics. She does come to her name and sits and stays quite well on her own now.

We absolutely love having her in our life as she brings so much joy and happiness to everyone around her. We're so thankful that she's ours as she brightens even the darkest of days. We know we made the right choice and she's a wonderful addition to our family.

Thanks again and we hope you're doing well,

Matt and Bryanne

Hello Frieda:

I’m not sure if you remember us, but we are the family that came to visit almost 5 years ago, looking for a family pet. We had two boys at that time that were 12 and 9 – now 17 and 14.  You had picked out a few pups for us and we came home with “BJ”. I just want to let you know that we have thoroughly enjoyed BJ – he is a great dog and we love him dearly. I’m afraid he is not living his true destiny as a hunting dog, but I think we have given him a good life. The closest he comes to hunting is his weekly fishing trips – by boat in summer on local lakes and on frozen lakes ice fishing in the winter. He lives for those days and loves to howl as my husband is reeling in a fish.  He stands on the front of the boat, with ears flapping in the wind. He has lots of energy when he’s out, but he is quite calm by nature when around the house.  He puts up with lots of handling and petting, but he is rather coy – in a very cute sort of way.

I have attached some pictures of him, so you can see how he looks. He has been very healthy and has managed to stay quite trim, despite his rather sedentary lifestyle. He does get out for frequent walks, but I know he could run for hours if he was in shape and had the opportunity– he certainly has the genetics for it! I would love to get your feedback if you have time to drop us a quick email.

You have made this family very happy and we often say that that was the best money we ever spent! We have received a return countless times over and our family memories will be filled with lots of good times because of BJ.

Sincerely – Don, Patti, Matt and Nick Kelm from Regina

Good Morning Frieda! I thought today would be very appropriate to send a testimonial your way!

Sire: 2 x AKC National FC Branko's One Tuff Ombre | Dam: Branko's Ella Ella

It has been some time since I have written our last testimonial and let me begin by saying that is not because our pup has not been working hard - she has been working EXTREMELY hard and continues to show us her great qualities. Our female will be 2 in March and we have trialed her 3 times - I guess the 3rd time must be a charm! I am happy to report that yesterday, she took a second at the Bay de Noc AKC Field Trail in Hyde, MI. It snowed heavy all day, but Charlie was still able to run the front! We get numerous compliments on her build and as I look at other hounds, I can truly appreciate her breeding! Her chest is nice and deep and talk about foot, this dog truly has foot! I was proud of her yesterday competing against the experienced, more mature dogs and came out in 2nd place! She was only 9 points behind the 1st place dog. We couldn't be happier with her and are looking forward to more trials. It is an honour to tell others about her breeding when they ask "Who's she out of?". I have enclosed a picture from the trial. Thanks again - we think she's the best!

Re: Lady

We purchased a pup from you in 2002. Lady is out of Lumberjack and Lady Macbeth. She is out of the litter born 9/24/02. Lady has made grand champion in UKC. She ran in 8 hunts as champion and won 5. Finished 2nd in the other three. Thank you for such a great dog. Am interested in purchasing another pup from you in the Spring.

Thank You,
Danny Butler

Re: Joey and Lilly

Hi Frieda,

Just wanted to send a new photo of Joey and Lilly. They are both doing very well. Their day is spent resting and wrestling. We forgot how much energy a beagle pup has. I received Lilly's papers...thank you. We did have Lilly spayed at the end of November and the surgery went very well.

Re: Abby

I’m not sure if you remember me, but I bought a beagle puppy from you in 2001.  Her name is Abby and she is doing great!  We love her to pieces and she has a cat “brother” and a cat “sister” who she loves to play with.  I wanted to send you an updated picture to let you know that she is doing well and is well taken care of. Thank you again.  And please know that if we are ever in need of another beagle (because that is the only kind of dog I would ever own!!), we will definitely contact you again!

Very best regards,
Joanne Matko

Re: Lilly, Beagle of the North

Hello Frieda,

It has been almost a year that I've had Lilly, and she is quite the character. Everyone in my family loves her. My older sister and her husband take her for sleep overs on the weekends. They recently lost their dog that they had for 13 years to cancer so having Lilly around makes it easier.

Re: Rowdy and Savage

Frieda and Branko,

Hello and hope all is well with you. Just thought I would send a quick note on how Rowdy and Savage are progressing. Both had a set back at the end of last season, a deer race. This came after I decided to try a new place to hunt, after turning out in 3 different places and not hitting any bunnies I think the dogs got desperate to run something and the deer were all they could find. Rowdy quit the deer and came in to me, Savage was caught and reprimanded. They have not run anything but rabbits since. I have turned them loose with deer standing in the back of the field, in an attempt to break them, and they move through where the deer were without a bark. I can not say that they are broke, but I can say that they know that deer are not what we are after. I only have a one dog e-collar and have ordered a new unit, just to help keep them honest.

I ran them quite a bit in the off season and they just keep getting better. Both of them can hunt all day and do it again the next day. I usually run them for about 3-4 hours a day. Small bunnies, tight cover, and solo time really helped each dog to gear down when needed and run a tight clean line.
Running solo also helped Savage to open more on a track. Both dogs have beautiful voices, Rowdy is deep and raspy, Savage is lighter. Both yip, squeal, and squall when scent is real hot, and bawl and chop when running hard. Just by listening to their voices it is very easy to tell how good the track is, or the type of cover they are in.

I have only carried a gun into the woods 3 times so far this season, but have killed bunnies every time. When a bunny gets into a hole they both come in, and both have caught rabbits that were not hit well and brought them to me. In tough cover or bad scenting conditions they will both work hard on a check and keep the bunny going. Neither dog is a "Me Too", they will both work hard in a check and have the brains to "drift" when needed. Well I can't wait for some good frosty mornings and fresh snow.

Your Friend and Very Satisfied Customer,

J. L.

Re: Great Rabbit Dog
Sire: UKC FCH Branko's Baba Clyde
Dam: Branko's Scarlett O'Hara

Hi Frieda and Branko:

I started my puppy on rabbits about 3 1/2 weeks ago and now she is running them really good. She ran a rabbit in a corn field the other day for 45 minutes and the only reason she stopped was because it went into a hole. I can't believe how good she is running rabbits already for being only 5 months old. She has already got use to my 4 wheeler, the only thing left is to gun over her.

Thanks again for a great rabbit dog.

Gabe
